Huge Norwegian Forest Cat the size of a large Maine Coon

Image
On average, the Norwegian Forest Cat (NFC) is smaller than the Maine Coon but there are exceptions and this is one of them. Not all MCs are larger than NFCs. This TikTok video illustrates the point. This NFC is very classic in terms of 'type' meaning desired appearance as per the breed standard. Super appearance. Huge Norwegian Forest Cat the size of a large Maine Coon. Image: MikeB from screenshots. Here is the video. For me it is a bit irritating because of the soundtrack. Horrible for me. But the point is made about size. This is a great NFC. A classic in terms of coat: a grey tabby-and-white. It is his size which is untypical for this breed although they are one of the largest domestic cat breeds challenging the supremacy of the Maine Coon sometimes .

Beautiful Norwegian Forest Cat runs through a Norwegian forest!

This video has difficulty in playing. I don't know why. But these sorts of technical problems can occur sometimes. I'm sorry if you can't see it.

It is unusual to see a Norwegian Forest Cat (NFC) run through a forest. I have taken the liberty in presuming that the forest is in Norway. It might not be but I'd call it poetic licence. You can almost see the original NFC running through the woods before this cat become a breed which would have been in the first half of the 20th century. The NFC is a selectively bred Norwegian moggie. And someone decided that it should be a breed. I guess they wanted Norway to have their own cat breed like America has theirs, the Maine Coon.

I made this video many years ago. It surprises me that it is still in existence! It tells you a bit about the breed which you might find useful.

The NFC is similar to the Maine Coon in appearance. The big difference is the pointed, triangular muzzle of the NFC compared to the squarer and heavier muzzle of the Maine Coon (MC). The lynx tipped ears of the MC is another give away. And of course, the MC is bigger than the NFC. A third cat breed is also similar to both of them: the Siberian. I compare all three on this page: click here please.

The video is from imgur.com. In order of popularity the MC tops the list and the NFC comes second. There are some wonderful pictures of genuine barn cat Siberians in Siberia which are more impressive than the selective bred cats of the US. The original cats of any breed in the countries where they were original found are always better than the artificially bred versions coming out of cat breeders. The real Turkish Angora for instance is very different to the American version.

There will random bred (moggy) Norwegian Forest Cats in Norway as I type this. They'll be longhaired cats that look similar to the breeder versions. But they'll look better I believe.
